HAT’s Off to Winter Gardening
September 25, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

CHUFF (Cedar Hill Urban Farmers) invites you to join us as member Karen, a long time winter vegetable gardener, shares her tips for planning and planting your 2023 winter vegetable garden.
Karen has over 20 years of food growing experience and is able to eat out of her yard 12 months of the year! Before retiring Karen was a professional in forest ecology and conservation. Karen’s garden reflects both passions, about half of her lot is an area of Garry Oak ecosystem she is trying to restore, and she has also integrated native plants throughout her lot to encourage a diversity of pollinators and wildlife.

Recognizing the importance and interconnections of such ecosystems and our food systems, we are delighted to welcome Ronna from HAT (Habitat Acquisition Trust). Established in 1996, HAT’s mission is to conserve natural areas on Southern Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands through protection, collaboration, stewardship and education. Ronna will lead us on a tour of this small but important ecosystem, highlighting the value of protecting and restoring such ecosystems and native plants for our pollinators, and our food system.
